Porcelain is a type of clay that has extremely fine particles and sensitive physical properties, making it difficult to handle. However, when completed, it exhibits a unique and beautiful whiteness that is different from regular white clay, and its beauty is especially highlighted when shaped thinly.
This class is recommended for those who already have a bit of experience with wheel throwing and want to experience working with porcelain clay.
Instructor: Eunbi Choi
Graduated with a major in porcelain craft in Korea and is currently active as a ceramic artist in Berlin. She possesses skills and know-how in various techniques using porcelain clay, like throwing, slip casting and handbuilding.
Day 1: Throwing
Practice wheel throwing with a small amount (300-400g) of porcelain clay.
Day 2: Trimming
Trim the works created in the last time. In this class, we will use a special trimming tool brought from Korea. It is more convenient and allows for finer trimming than regular trimming tools.
Day 3: Throwing
Use a large amount (1000-1500g) of porcelain clay. Learn the technique of throwing off the hump, which involves throwing a large amount of clay on the wheel at once to easily create small pieces quickly.
Day 4: Trimming
Trim all the pieces created in the last times and clean and prepare the pots before bisque firing.
The studio will handle glazing, and a transparent glaze will be used to enhance the colour of the white porcelain. Your works will be ready in 2-3 weeks.
Prices are per person.
